Statewide PSM Program Development Update

A two-day workshop recently hosted by Portland State University in mid-September launched the statewide PSM program development initiative!  Oregon State University has been serving as the lead institution since it is currently the only university in the Pacific Northwest to offer PSM programs.  That will soon change with PSM programs in various stages of development at seven of the OUS campuses including Southern Oregon University, Eastern Oregon University, Portland State University, Oregon Health Sciences University, Western Oregon University, and the Oregon Institute of Technology.  Read more…

New Students and Scholarship Recipients

This fall, five new Environmental Sciences students joined our PSM program as well as two in Applied Physics, four in Biotechnology, and one in Applied Systematics in Botany.  Learn more about this cohort of 12 students by visiting our web page: http://psm.science.oregonstate.edu/student-profiles.  University Graduate Laurels PSM Scholarships were awarded to Jenny Dresler, Katie Jones, Jessica McCartney, Kevin Reilly, Christopher Cheng, Matthew Barmann.  Congratulations!

New Business Instructors

The College of Business will be teaching our PSM business courses this year (http://psm.science.oregonstate.edu/professional-training).  John Mentler is currently teaching PSM 565 Accounting and Finance for Scientists.  Mark Elton will be teaching PSM 566 Project Management and Marketing Scientific Technologies winter term, and  John Turner will serve as instructor for PSM 567 Innovation Management spring term 2010.  Collectively, they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program.  These courses are part of an 18-credit Graduate Certificate in Professional Management Skills for Scientists, which is expected to receive approval and become fully available online by fall 2010.
