Statewide PSM Program Development Initiative
Oregon State University will be receiving a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to implement a strategy for statewide PSM program development. Read more...
New PSM Students and Scholarship Recipients
This fall, we will have 13 new students on campus enrolled in PSM programs bringing the total number of current students to 27 with 36 graduates. Incoming students will be joining us from as far away as India as well as South Carolina, Utah, Minnesota, Washington, and Missouri nationally. Read more....
American Institute of Biological Sciences Annual Conference
Dr. Ursula Bechert chaired a panel discussion on behalf of the National Professional Science Master’s Association (www.npsma.org) at this year’s American Institute of Biological Sciences conference in Arlington, VA on May 18-19. Read more....
Recent Graduates
Anthony Summers successfully defended on the 13th of May where he presented results from his internship project with the Siuslaw National Forest. Steve Radosevich, in the College of Forestry, served as Tony’s major professor. Tony accepted a position with the U.S. Forest Service to manage invasive plant species on Catalina Island off the coast of California, and he’ll be starting that work this summer.
End of Year PSM Picnic
The annual PSM picnic was held on the 5th of June at Willamette River Park south of Corvallis. Approximately 20 students and PSM program affiliates participated and celebrated the end of another academic year. Fortunately, the terrific thunderstorms that made the news hit the valley the day before the picnic! Click here for a photo.
Upcoming PSM Defense - May 13, 2009
Anthony Summers, a PSM student in the Environmental Sciences track, will be defending on Wednesday the 13th of May at 2:00 pm in Wilkinson Hall Room 206. His presentation is entitled: "Pixies and Polygonum: Encouraging a Collaborative Effort in Weed Management at the Federal, State, County, and Local Levels". Panel speakers praise PSM programs nationwide
Eight panelists at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Chicago in February spoke at length about the benefits of master’s level education and the need for programs such as the Professional Science Master’s in the U.S. Panelists recommended Congress appropriate money to develop more PSM programs at U.S. universities. The newly signed federal stimulus bill is slated to invest $15 million through the National Science Foundation to help develop new PSM programs. Click here to read whole story.

Internship and job opportunities can now be posted on Oregon State University’s PSM website! Students and alumni can explore internship and job opportunities online. Employers, if you have a job or internship opportunity that you would like to post, simply fill out the online submission form.
